FAQ

Do you have any vACC questions? Here are the answers!

1. What is VATSIM?

VATSIM (Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network) is a global network for flight simulation and air traffic control that allows users, both pilots and controllers, to participate in real-time virtual aviation operations.

2. What is VATSIM Spain?

VATSIM Spain is the vACC (virtual Area Control Center) within the VATEUD division, responsible for coordinating virtual aviation activities in VATSIM within Spanish airspace. Here, pilots and controllers can fly and manage air traffic at airports, approach sectors, and routes in Spain with structured, highly realistic training.

3. How do I join VATSIM and VATSIM Spain?

  1. You need to register on the VATSIM network through their official website.
  2. Choose Europe, Middle East and Africa as your region during registration.
  3. When selecting a division, choose Europe (except UK).

If your current division is outside the VATSIM EMEA region and you want to change region and/or division: go to myVATSIM (VATSIM Membership Portal) to change your region to “VATSIM EMEA” and your new division to “Europe.” This transfer may take up to 5 days to be approved.

Before connecting to the network, you’ll need to complete a basic knowledge exam via the VATSIM main page.

Once you belong to the European division and want to join VATSIM Spain, go to the VATEUD website and follow these steps:

  1. Log in.
  2. Follow these steps: Profile>My VATEUD>Transfers>Request Transfer and in select vACC choose Spain vACC. Write the reasons why you want to transfer to VATSIM Spain and move the button to the right of Are you sure wish to transfer?; once completed, click Request Transfer and in a few hours or days, you will be part of VATSIM Spain.

4. I’m interested in becoming a controller at VATSIM Spain, what should I do?

We are delighted that you’ve decided to join VATSIM Spain as a controller! Please understand that the training is long, demanding, and will require patience and perseverance.

The first step we highly recommend is reading the Training Manual, where most of your questions will be answered, and new ones might arise. You’ll also find the steps to begin your training as a controller at VATSIM Spain.

It’s important to note that to control in VATSIM Spain, knowledge of Spanish is mandatory for both new members and visitors in order to manage airspace in Spanish-speaking areas.

5. How do I start flying as a pilot on VATSIM?

To start flying, you will need:

VATSIM organizes events specifically for new users called First Wings, which are designed to help pilots practice and gain experience. These events are held periodically across various vACCs, with controllers assisting you during your early flights. Since most of these events take place in non-Spanish-speaking countries, basic knowledge of English phraseology is recommended.

7. I’m a controller and would like to reserve a control position, how do I do it?
